At  Johnston’s BBQ, we believe barbecue was never meant to be complicated, it was meant to bring people together.

Gathering around backyard smokers. kitchen tables, campfires, garages, lake lots, while enjoying the late night conversations that somehow always last longer than planned.

That’s where Johnston’s comes from. Not from a boardroom, a marketing team, and certainly not from chasing trends.

Johnston’s was built from years spent cooking for family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who happened to pull up a chair when the food was ready.

Born in Alberta and inspired by Southern barbecue traditions, our goal has always been simple, create bold, balanced seasoning people actually want to keep using.

Not overpowering, not trendy, not built for one perfect bite; always built for real meals.

What About Competition BBQ

Competition barbecue has always been part of our story.

With two KCBS Master Series judges in the family, and three successful KCBS competitors, conversations around smoke profiles, flavor layering, tenderness, balance, and technique have lived around our table for years. That world helped shape the standards we hold ourselves to today. It is a world we have nothing but respect for, the dedication, craftsmanship, overnight cooks, and the pursuit of perfection that still drives us today.

But somewhere along the way, we realized something. The meals we remembered most weren’t the ones judged by a group of strangers in one bite, they were the ones shared with the people we cared about.

That’s what Johnston’s became, a brand built for full plates instead of scorecards, for second helpings instead of garnish boxes, for family dinners, game nights, tailgates, hunting camps, lake lots, and backyard gatherings where the smoker runs all day and nobody ever wants to leave.

Because great barbecue isn’t just about flavor, it’s about connection.

Built With Purpose

Every Johnston’s blend is designed to bring something different to the table while still staying true to what we believe barbecue should be, bold, balanced, and memorable.

From the Texas inspired backbone of Cattle King, to the Carolina style balance of Pit Viper, the buttery richness of Butter Bomb, and the Southern attitude behind Gator Bite, every bottle is built to work in real kitchens and on real cookers. Low and slow brisket, weeknight chicken wings, cast iron burgers, ribs for family and friends, steaks after work, and yes, even breakfast eggs, bacon, and potatoes at the lake. The good food our family and friends actually cook.

We don’t believe seasoning should hide the meat, we believe it should elevate it.
